One of the premiere first wave electronic groups, Book of Love emerged out of the New York City scene in the mid-‘80s in the wake of UK synthpop stalwarts Yaz, Erasure and Depeche Mode. Signed to a label deal with Sire Records by the legendary Seymour Stein, art-students-turned-musicians Ted Ottaviano, Susan Ottaviano, Jade Lee and Lauren Roselli recorded just four albums, but their influence can heard today more powerfully than ever, from the chart-storming dance pop of La Roux and Ladyhawke to the darker leanings of indie electro darlings Little Boots and Goldfrapp. Dancefloor staples like “Pretty Boys and Pretty Girls,” “You Make Me Feel So Good,” “Modigliani,” “I Touch Roses” and the iconic “Boy” continue to inspire, as a whole new generation of tastemaking artists DJs and music fans discover their bittersweet and twisted canon.
Now, 25 years since its original release, the band’s eponymous debut album is seeing the light of day (again). Book of Love’s four Sire albums — Book of Love, Lullaby, Candy Carol and Lovebubble have all been reissued, musically expanded and digitally remastered with bonus tracks, rare live recordings as well as hard to find remixes.
