Cindy Blackman’s Another Lifetime

Biography

CINDY BLACKMAN - DRUMS
FELIX PASTORIUS - BASS
MARC CARY - KEYBOARDS
AURELIEN BUDYNEK - GUITAR

Powerhouse drummer Cindy Blackman is a commanding jazz musician, also known for her work backing retro-rock icon Lenny Kravitz. With a kinetic attack, she’s ideally equipped to pay tribute to the amazing Tony Williams, whose unique rhythmic genius was immediately evident when he joined the Miles Davis band at 17. Williams soon invented a new and hugely influential drum set vocabulary. He was a key pioneer of ‘70s fusion in the astonishing band Lifetime (with John McLaughlin and Larry Young), and stayed at the forefront of jazz as a leader on Blue Note until his death in 1997. Blackman was mentored by master drummers Art Blakey and Alan Dawson, going on to formative gigs with saxophonists Jackie McLean, Joe Henderson and Pharoah Sanders. With fire and finesse, she provides an opportunity to hear one of the true disciples of Tony Williams, perhaps the greatest drummer of his lifetime—or any other.
